Scientific Name Androstachys johnsonii
Family Euphorbiaceae
Other names: Lebombo, IronWood, Mezimbite, Nsimbitsi
Distribution: East Africa
The wood: Heartwood light or medium brown, reddish tint, with darker markings; sapwood yellowish white, not sharply demarcated. Texture very fine and even; grain straight. It weighs 920 Kg/m3 with 12 % of humidity
Seasoning: Seasons slowly
Workability: Sawing and machining is particularly difficult for the timber is very hard
Uses: It is used for flooring, railway crossties, turnery or heavy construction
